ocr: Slovalcs dominate society, but 9% ofthe population is Hungarian and there is a large Gypsy minority. l'ension has increasedbetween the Slovaks and Hungarians, particularly over the directive that Hungarians should adopt Slovak name endings. Before independence, many slalled Slovalcs took seniorjobs in Prague, but few have returned to help structure the new Slovakia. Roman Catholicism remains a powerful social force.
